Why I’m a pessimist about people, but an optimist about humanity.

Today is my thirty-third birthday.

Here’s what I’ve learned:

99% of all people are superstitious, irrational, cowardly, stupid, and cruel most of the time. That 99% will spend their lives eating, breeding, and watching TV. On their deathbeds, they’ll regret most of what they’ve done, and every bit of what they haven’t done. They’ll be soon forgotten by loved ones, and the world at large won’t miss them at all.

Even so, I’m an optimist about humanity, because just one Einstein outweighs the billions who contribute nothing.

You add one invention like the printing press, or one immutable discovery about matter and energy, or one Miles Davis solo, and and the value of every other good thing increases exponentially.

Good scales, Evil doesn’t.
