What’s wrong with AMOLED phone displays?

So far every AMOLED phone I’ve seen shows significant dithering, as if you’re looking at the display through a mesh.

I haven’t been able to photograph the effect, but here’s an approximation:

Perhaps future phones with higher pixel density (or without PenTile sub pixels) won’t have perceptible dithering, but until then I’d avoid any AMOLED phone.
